Introduction

Alexander Straulino
“I love to play with colour and have tried to take this to its very limits”, says the Berlin-based fashion photographer of his uniquely expressive style.

By using distinctive body paint and bold make-up, and with the help of refined details, the models in Straulino’s images appear almost sculptural. This effect is amplified through the use of intense lighting, which helps to highlight the powder-like, metal-iridescent colour pigments and glossy coatings. This masterful manipulation of colour is not an attempt to mask the surface, or to provide an exaggerated costume, but to produce a remarkable artistic affect. Straulino uses finely balanced colour tones as a subtle means to create expressive, erotic gestures.
