Dewey Nicks is an artist, photographer, and film director whose images, with their natural-looking models in relaxed poses, embrace an uncomplicated joie de vivre. His career began in the middle of the 1990s on the beaches of Santa Barbara and Pasadena, where he captured the easy-going look of the California lifestyle for young fashion labels.
He photographed successful campaigns for Versace, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess Jeans and Ralph Lauren there followed numerous adverts for Tommy Hilfiger. In 2000 Greybull Press published Kustom, Nicks’ first photo-book inspired by the very ideals and unique expression that originally attracted him to California.
His series for Glamour magazine are particularly demonstrative of his unconventional approach to locations such as Hollywood or the Chelsea Hotel in New York, and also reveal his talent for using photo-shoots to tell stories.
