BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Abstract forms and striking colors. At first glance, it appears to be a futuristic composition made up of arcing rays of light and rich contrasts before a luminous sphere background. On the whole, it invites us to step closer and take an in-depth look at all the details. Danish photo artist Bo Nymann takes the viewer on a rollercoaster ride through the realm of the abstract into a real-life amusement park.

What we see is actually Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens, an enormous amusement park with spectacular attractions that draw millions of visitors a year from all around the world. One of the biggest attractions is The Demon, a blood-pumping rollercoaster with bottomless carriages that gives its passengers a feeling of weightlessness as they peak dizzying heights up to 28 meters high. Nyman manages to immerse the viewer directly into the scene - within The Demon. Nyman manages to immerse the viewer directly into the scene - within The Demon. From the belly of the beast, Nymann sets the viewer right in midst of the action, looking out through the steel mesh of the coaster and into the night sky over Copenhagen. To the right, one of the coaster’s cars zooms by. The contrasts and colors are as vivid as the vocal jubilation of the delighted riders. â€¨â€¨

In Chin Up!, Nymann turns supposed contradictions into a cohesive experience. Nymann has been concentrating on art photography since 1986. He knows his craft and selects subjects with learned expertise. The coaster’s solid structures combined with arcs of light and dynamic forms make the composition especially impressive. This piece gives us a look at the inner workings of the rollercoaster as well as the endless expanse of the sky. There is a lot to experience at Tivoli Gardens – and in Nymann’s art. Over the years, the artist has presented his work at numerous exhibitions, giving audiences beyond his country’s borders a chance to see his work.
