Introduction
Greg Kadel
American photographer Greg Kadel divides his time between residences and studios in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. Renowned for his playful, provocative approach to shooting female figures, he has been working for many of the world’s leading magazines for over a decade.
For his fashion productions Kadel prefers to work with female characters whom he depicts with a certain sense of irony, whether a dominatrix, a nymph, a maid, a circus assistant, or a fairytale princess. From poetic to provocative, impudent to innocent, passive to dominant – Kadel’s models display a theatrical presence and powerful gestures.
Hallways and hotel corridors are frequent backdrops, and street scenes are preferred to studios. For his current production with Italian Vogue, which includes both a photo series and a video, Kadel is experimenting with new perspectives from different viewpoints and with converging lines in front of post-modern architectural backgrounds. This continual search for new angles is what makes Kadel’s work so distinctive.
