YOU BUY ART, WE PLANT 3 TREES IN YOUR NAME
To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of LUMAS, we want to do something very special with you. More than simply inviting you to a party. We would like to plant a whole forest with you to take action for a better world for all of our children.
Our Goal: At Least 20,000 Trees in 2 Months. An Entire Forest. Take Part Now.
Any work of art from LUMAS
Three trees for you in the LUMAS forest
in Nicaragua or the Philippines
A certificate as a Thank You. In your name, or as a gift for someone else.
Recently, Greta Thunberg’s moving speech at the UN Summit and the discouraging failure of the government to take definitive action have made one thing clear: without large, society-led initiatives, it will not be possible to stop climate change. When you consider that some regions - such as Botswana and Greenland - are already experiencing warming of more than 3 degrees Celsius (over 5 degrees Fahrenheit), we cannot wait even more day. We are now all on the hook and required to act. Enough talk.
Looking out of the car window, we all instantly understand that there will not be change in carbon-dioxide emissions that is big enough and fast enough. The only way is through projects with “negative” CO2 emissions. Carbon dioxide from 100 years of industrialization and mobility must be absorbed out of the atmosphere as quickly as possible. Our CO2 emissions. An especially effect way to do that is through reforestation, which is becoming the cause of more and more large projects.
What is the exact impact of this?
In its first 20 years, a tropical tree takes in one ton of CO2 and “transforms” it into wood and life-giving oxygen through photosynthesis. Nature’s eternal respiration cycle. Over the rest of its life, the tree exponentially increases the amount of CO2 it absorbs. A tree positively affects the environment for 200 years or more – a little bit more each and every day. That makes this a project that will reach our great-grandchildren.
In short: Thanks to the first year of your 3 trees, you can drive your conventional car for a year and half with a clear conscience and neutral CO2 emissions (estimates from a mid-sized car driving 7,450 miles per year). And the Tesla should be here by then.
So It’s all about CO2?
First and foremost, yes. But the “side effects” are worth mentioning. Step by step , we plant a mixed forest typical of the specific region. From the ground to the treetops, a whole ecosystem of secondary plants, fungi, worms, insects, birds, and mammals arises. Trees offer protection from the wind and evaporate water that leads to more precipitation. Last but not least, tree cover prevents erosion, protecting and regenerating the fertile soil.
Additionally these kinds of reforestation projects create jobs while raising awareness about this extremely important topic. The involvement and support of the locals is an important part of the work.
Why not do this closer to home?
In tropical, rain forest regions, trees grow all year round, and there is plenty of rain throughout the year. This means trees grow substantially faster, thus absorbing more CO2. The local residents are involved with planting and caring for the trees for the long term, giving them a means of supporting their families other than illegal logging.
The projects supported by LUMAS are in protected, national preserves and will be actively followed and supported by the responsible ministries.
Will LUMAS Plant the trees themselves?
We could not have found a better partner for our purposes than the non-profit organization Prima Klima. With 30 years of experience and 14 million planted trees worldwide, Prima Klima are experts in the field of sustainable reforesting. Prima Klima works on location, socially engaged, and cost-consciously. Our goal with Prima Klima? The LUMAS Forest in Nicaragua: a biologically ideal, mixed forest of at least 10,000 trees. Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere and is already strongly feeling the effects of climate change.
We also want to take action in the Philippines and plant a forest together with the Mama Earth Foundation. Founder Ulrich Kronberg, a friend of ours, has lived in the Philippines for a long time. He personally leads the project with great dedication, reducing the administrative costs to nearly nothing. We have also set an ambitious goal with Ulrich: 11,000 trees throughout 20 hectares in the LUMAS name – and in your name.
The first 1,000 narra trees have already been planted, pioneer trees that will later provide necessary shade for more trees. And 10,000 more seedlings are being grown in nurseries, getting ready to be planted in the perfect location: Mundo Hill on the island of Mindanao. This is also a habitat for the critically endangered Philippine eagle! With your support we can improve its habitat and that of 200 other bird species. It is hard to put a number on the rest of the biodiversity this supports.
ART FOR NATURE
Plant Trees with LUMAS
Wouldn’t this also make a perfect gift?
Definitely! You can also personalize the certificate for your three trees to gift to someone else. While placing your order, simply write their name in the “address line 2” field.
Where exactly will LUMAS plant the trees?
Below are Google Maps with the locations of the LUMAS forests, where you can check back and follow the planting and development of your trees.
And then just back to business as usual at LUMAS?
No, certainly not. In the past, for instance, we built a school Myanmar and financed its operation, and in the future, we want to continue to initiate and support additional projects for preventing climate change. We are also working to make LUMAS carbon neutral by 2020.
Is there something individuals can do?
That would be our goal. We want as many energetic people as possible, who are just as concerned with the future of our planet, to be excited by reforestation. Take a look at the work of Prima Klima and the Mama Earth Foundation. Donate or start your own project! At atmosfair, you can also quickly and easily offset CO2 emissions from flights, which is what we also do.
Enjoy Art For A Good Cause
Naturally, we would be overjoyed if you find a work of art you love to support this cause. Just like that, three more trees get planted!
